I was struck by a conversation started by Marc Andreesen on social systems that encourage negative behaviour.
He is entirely right, these systems do exist and they are bad. However, it seems that anonymity is one of the components of these systems that was singled out for criticism.
The thing that struck me was the apparent discomfort of the community with anonymous chat whilst many champion a payments system that has pseudo anonymity at it's core.
Surely, if pseudo-anonymity can encourage bad behaviours in a chat environment there is at the very least a danger that it could encourage bad behaviours in commerce when applied to payments.
1/I really never like to criticize any startup, and I won’t in this thread by name, but there is an important topic that must be discussed. 2/It is truism of design of social/communication software that how the software is designed deeply influences human behavior that results.
